MBAKS ANNOUNCES 2023 REX (REMODELING EXCELLENCE) AWARDS WINNERS and this year, Lochwood-Lozier takes home a prize for: RESIDENTIAL REMODEL EXCELLENCE—HISTORICAL, LESS THAN $200,000.
The REX Awards, presented by the Remodelers Council of MBAKS, encourages local remodelers and builders to submit their best projects of the year. Lochwood-Lozier submitted projects in several categories, and took home the award for best Historical Renovation on a Mercer Island project.
“The reclaimed bar, an early 1900’s antique crafted by The Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company, has an enriching history. Curated from an old tavern in Eastern Washington, the quarter sawn oak bar is flanked by two massive oak columns. These lavish bar ensembles are unique to America, and this surviving example has been carefully and lovingly restored, ready to enjoy. In addition to the reclaimed bar, the wine cellar door and frame are also antiques. Procured from Spain, the 17th century hand carved Spanish cedar doors and matching frame are a rarity. In addition to its door, reclaimed materials can also be found inside the wine cellar. Note the brick, wood paneling, reclaimed French artwork, and antique pendant light (not pictured). The dramatic bar front acts as the focal point of design, yet cohesively blends with updated aesthetics of the rest of the home.
The rustic bar highlights custom millwork and cabinets and a wine cellar. Behind the bar, the design elements contrasting color make this space pop where the theme of light whites and grays against sleek black cabinetry is continued. In addition to it’s charm, the design encompasses all that is luxury with a fresh suite of appliances: automated wine dispenser, coffee maker, beverage coolers, ice makers, dishwasher, microwave, and kegerator. Not to mention all the added storage! The wide range of materials and textures bring out the natural wood tones in the antique bar display, making it the focal point of the sweeping basement, a piece of art that has withstood the tests of time.”
